Oppression. Enamel on Wood, 12” x 12”. 2025

Oppression was the first painting I created at Foundation House. As I began, I found myself thinking back to a piece I made nearly twenty years ago, during a time when I felt overwhelmed by debt after moving to New York City. In both works, I tried to give form to that heavy, suffocating feeling—the sense of being buried under darkness—while still allowing a fragile rainbow of hope to break through.
